Angry Birds fly in!

In numeracy this week we have been learning about nets of 3D shapes.  We learnt what a net is and by using Polydrons, we had to work out if the net made a cube. Then we made our own 3D shapes out of nets of Angry Birds! We were very excited to make them.  Some of us even made the big bad pig who stole the Angry Bird’s eggs!

The Sound Collector

In our literacy lessons this week, we have been learning about poetry. We looked at lots of different poems and discussed ways they could be improved. One poem we looked at was called ‘The Sound Collector’ by Roger McGough. He writes about a stranger stealing sounds around him. We liked the poem but wanted to make it more exciting by adding actions and sound effects to our own versions. Here is what we came up with. Enjoy!

Is this the new London 2012 logo design?

2M have been designing their own version of the London 2012 logo. The boys used bright colours to make it as creative as they could so people would want to buy tickets to the Olympics. Here are their designs…

Dinosaur dioramas

We have had a fantastic time learning all about dinosaurs this term! Here are our ‘dino’ dioramas we made. We hope you like them as much as we do.

2M finally erupt!!

We have been learning all about erupting volcanoes in our topic lesson this week.  We found out that the different layers on the earth are called the crust, mantle and core. This is where the magma comes from and we found out what it becomes once it leaves the volcano. Finally we saw how a volcano erupts!

We have made our own volcanoes out of clay and even made them erupt  by using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and of course used  red food colouring for the lava effect!

Watch what happens…

2M do the mile!

2M’s challenge for Sport Relief 2012, was to run 13 laps of the playground which equals 1 mile.  Some of the boys ran more than 13 laps!!!  Even Mr Miller and Mrs Ockelford had their running gear on and joined the boys with their mile.  It was quite tough as the weather was very warm in the afternoon so the boys needed a well earned cup of refreshing water afterwards. They were extremely proud of themselves and received a certificate from Mr Farmen for taking part, well done boys!

Jack Stalwart and the Thief of the Glistening Gold

Oliver has been so inspired by his recent reading of Secret Agent Jack Stalwart by Elizabeth Singer Hunt that he decided to write his own adventure story at home! A fantastic piece of creative writing, well done!

Clockwise or anti-clockwise?

In numeracy we have been learning how to follow directions and movements by working out how get around a grid. First we had to know which way was clockwise and anti-clockwise, then how far to move our body with a quarter, half and whole turn. We also had to work out directions for our partner before they followed them. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t but we had lots of fun while learning!

News bites

In our literacy lessons, we have been learning how to present a non-chronological report in the style of news reporters. We all tried really hard to speak clearly, loudly, remember what we were reporting on and to look at the camera at all times. Here are our news bites on dinosaurs…

Active learning with dinosaurs!

Today has been a day full of fun and excitment as 2M and 2W have enriched ther learning by creating dinosaurs! They made a giant Stegosaurus and T-Rex out of a wire frame and mod roc, an erupting volcano which was overflowing with lava, a flying Pterodactyl and an oil pastel landscape of the Jurassic and Triassic period. The boys also created dinosaur bookmarks, door hanger signs and split pin Stegosaurs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and will remember this for a long time.

Visit 2W’s blog to see more photos and video footage from our dino day!
